Fighting Wing doctrine from the perspective of the wingman in the formation.

Fighting Wing 2v1

The fighting wing is a formation where the leader is on the offensive whilst the Wingman follows in close formation to cover him.
Lead- is supposed to focus on the making the kill and check their wingman's six o'clock (rear) if possible
Wingman- is supposed to maintain formation and scan for bandits.
Try not get further away then 60 (icons on=0.6) metres.
The fighting wing is a good way to help your wingman gain experience in formation flying and general combat manoeuvres.
Easy to perform if you can formation fly.
"Four eyes are better then two."
But...
Wingman is really focused on the leader and doesn't scan effectively.
Lead is also so busy with the bandits that he forgets his wingman's six o'clock, making it easy for EAs to bounce wingman.
The wingman has no offensive role, which means that combat becomes a 1v1 instead of a 2v1 situation. The bandit is able to react easier because there is, in effect, only one of you.
Angle fighting is more suited to fighting wing. If you follow the leader after a BnZ, it can leave you in a vulnerable position.
